Don't depend on your worldly possessions
by Brigitta Keck

As far as I can see everyone, at least at some stage in life, thinks they would be happier if they earned more money. That life would be easier when they could afford this and that, own a larger house, a bigger, newer car. However no one wants money just for the sake of it, sitting at home and counting $100 bills, but because we want to buy something with it.

But for some reason I was never interested in becoming rich and wealthy. Of course, when I saw a nice mansion or villa in a movie I too said to myself “Oh, nice, wonder how it would be like living there,” but then I would also start thinking “Who is going to clean all those windows? And how many rooms need vacuuming and dusting? No use owning a big estate when you cannot also afford the necessary help.”

However looking back I can say that I have always been fortunate that when I really wanted something, I always managed to get it, even if there were a few tough times here and there.

When I think about money I always remember one advice that I read in a book ages ago. In regard to a car it said “Buy a technically sound car, but the cheapest your pride can afford”. For me that says it all. How much of your worldly possessions do you really, really need? How many of your desires are created by clever marketing or peer pressure? When I started working in a consulting company not only my salary increased, but also the pressure to get a whole new set of business clothes. Living on a farm today I realise how much money I save just by being rid of all those requirements.

The biggest impact on my attitude though had my spiritual teacher. He stated that most of us do not own what we acquire with our money, but that our possessions own us (why do you think we have such a thriving insurance industry?). Enjoy what you have while you have it and be grateful, but do not depend on it.

Currently I am in the process of downsizing and the attitude to my possessions has changed dramatically over the years. Today I would be able to leave my home, just with a knapsack on my back, leaving everything behind if I had to.

Could you do the same?

Your Relationship with Money - Resources
by Linder Chong

Everyone has their idea of what money means to them, and as a result you live your life accordingly, whether you’re aware of it or not. Here are some resources which I hope will support you in getting clarity on your relationship with money.

1. Susie and Otto Collins have a website for relationships and love. They have an interesting article on money as regards to couple relationships called ‘The Issue of Money in Spiritual Partnership’. Click here to read the article http://www.collinspartners.com/relationships/money.html

2. In the ‘Dynamic Laws of Prosperity’ by Catherine Ponder she talks about the ‘Vacuum law of Prosperty’ . . . “if you want greater good, greater prosperity in your life, start forming a vacuum to receive it! In other words, get rid of what you don’t want to make room for what you do want.” This not only applies to money but to health and all areas of your life. She also discusses how ‘releasing’ and ‘forgiving’ are powerful practices we can use everyday to free ourselves of negative stored emotions.

3. In Terah Collins book ‘The Western Guide to Feng Shui’ …”According to the I Ching, the steady and gradual accumulation of wealth is the best path for securing present and future happiness. Happiness comes to us in many forms. There is great value in having close friends and family, good health, and fulfilling creative expression in the world. The ideal way to build and maintain the things that are valuable to us is likened to the gently, steady influence of a warm breeze. When we caress the people, places and things that bring the experience of abundance and prosperity into our lives, we are living according to this I Ching teaching.”

4. We all know ‘Rich Dad’ Robert Kiyosaki. He’s written many books on financial management. His mission is ‘to elevate the financial well-being of humanity’. For some fun ways to learn about money, click on his site http://www.cashflowtech.com/fun_downloads/ to check out his games. He even provides coaching on wealth creation!
