To all new subscribers since our last issue, and thank you for everyone who forwarded our newsletter "Rethink Reframe Renew" to a friend or colleague. We want to let you know that we decided to have our next teleforum in February 2008. Since everyone is so busy at the moment we believe that would be a better time. Therefore we discuss "Timing and Synchronicity" this month. The intellect
has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness,
call it Intuition or what you will, the solution comes to you and you
don't know how or why. There
is no such thing as chance; and what seem to us merest accident springs
from the deepest source of destiny. |

Article We all experience synchronicity, described as “meaningful coincidences”, whether we are aware of it or not. Usually we feel we are just lucky, everything in our life suddenly works beautifully together to help us reach a goal, a desired state or to get something we want. Today I will share with you what synchronicity means for me, but more importantly, the ramifications of this effect. I started with looking closer at one of the keywords in the description – ‘co-incidence’. Today we use coincidence with the meaning of “something that happens by chance in a surprising or remarkable way”. This word is actually made up of two distinct ones, co- and incidence. Incidence can be described as an event and in English the prefix co- means “together, joint, jointly.” Coincidence then means an event that happens together with – and here it gets interesting – together with what or whom? So let’s have a look at who the participants in a synchronistic event are. Firstly there is “I”, my Ego, the one who believes that she is in control, plans and through action makes things happen. Then there is my Higher Self who knows exactly what kind of experience I currently need in order to learn, grow and evolve. And lastly there is the rest of the world, all the other people with which I interact. Synchronicity then means for me an event where “I” did not take immediate action. Carl Jung actually describes synchronicity as “meaningful coincidences, which are causally unrelated”. So if I am looking for a job and I call a recruitment agency then that is taking action. If a friend calls me with “we need someone to help with our work here, would you be available”, then that would be a synchronistic event. However I do not believe that this would be “causally unrelated”. Today we know that just having the intent is 'cause' enough. Looking at resources on the internet I realise that examples of synchronicity usually include what we would judge ‘positive’ results. I have to point out that the opposite is also true. There will be times when no matter what “I” do, what action I take, how hard I try to rectify an ‘unwanted’ situation, that all my efforts will appear to be fruitless. So what is happening then? The main ingredients in a scenario like that will be ‘Ego’ and ‘Judgement’. When my Ego and my Higher Self are in sync, then I experience that as positive, as having a good time, and everyone of us is quite capable of ‘coping’ with that. However when my Higher Self knows that it would be beneficial to experience something that my Ego judges as negative, then I object. The problem is my Ego just doesn’t have the broad overview to be able to judge what needs to happen right now. Maybe I am on the wrong track or the time is just not right yet. We do not always get immediate feedback like the person I read about years ago. A lady needed to get to the airport and was rather upset when her car didn’t start. So she flagged down a cab with the instruction of “Hurry please”. The cab then managed to be involved in an accident, and when she finally reached the airport in yet another cab she only saw ‘her’ plane taking off. Just when she was ready to utter some rather unladylike words she saw the plane explode. I want to use this story as an example to direct your attention to the third participant in a synchronistic event. Remember, the world around us? Reading that little story we tend to concentrate on the main person, the lady who needed to get to the airport. However there is another very important one, the one we usually overlook, the driver of the car who involved the cab in an accident. In order to save the lady's life someone had to make a ‘mistake’, and I am sure that that particular driver wasn’t very happy, probably raving about his or her ‘bad luck’, never being aware what important role he or she just played. Therefore there are two distinct points of view. One is being the centre of attention, the other being part of the world for other people. So in order for synchronicity to work it needs not only a ‘receiving’ person, but also ‘giving’ ones, and that includes you and me. Little things, like a thought shared, a book lent, just a smile, can make a huge difference. And that is where I stop analysing. Once we understand how the principle works, and that it works well, then there is no need to be able to explain every single event in our lives. We are all interconnected, co-creating life, like a beautifully choreographed ballet, the Dance of Life. Be awake, follow your intuition and don’t hold back. You never know what someone else needs to hear, to see, to experience. Receive the gifts of the universe with gratitude and be a willing ‘tool’ to hand them out to others. PS. Once
you fully understand the principle of synchronicity you may come to the
conclusion that actually there is no such thing as a ‘coincidence’
in the traditional meaning. So what is the crucial difference, why do
we feel most of the time that life ‘just happens’ to us? The
difference is awareness. The more you wake up, the more you become aware
how everything is interconnected, interwoven, then – life becomes
beautiful, exciting and wonderful, no matter what the current outward
situation might be because – you learn to trust and have faith in
LIFE. |

Synchronicity Resource Centre I believe synchronicity, timing and coincidence are all linked. When you’re not ready for a special growth or learning or to move to the next level then you don’t see the ‘signs’. Have you ever set your sights on something you really want and suddenly a chain of events happen to bring you what you most desire? We’ve all experienced this in some way or another. Some of those experiences may even be very profound. Have a read of our resources and see what wisdoms others have to share . . . 1. Deepak Chopra says we can influence synchronicity in our lives. We can foster synchronicity through attention and “we can use synchronicity by introducing intention. When we do this synchronicity transforms our lives into something truly magical.” Deepak Chopra coined the term Synchrodestiny. Read more about it at http://www.cygnus-books.co.uk/features/synchrodestiny_deepak_chopra.htm 2. Carl Jung explained synchronicity as a series of “meaningful coincidences”. Incidences on their own can be simply coincidences. But when you get a chain of events that have some message or meaning, you get synchronicity. http://skepdic.com/jung.html 3. Here is an interesting article on manifesting and attracting into your life, the things that are going on within you. http://www.crystalinks.com/synchronicity.html 4. I’m
reading a fascinating book called ‘The Power of Coincidence –
How Life Shows Us What We Need to Know’ by David Richo.
